ENTRANCE EXAM SYLLABUS

The syllabus for the entrance exam in Maths, to be written by X standard students, for admission into Senior Smart Course,(Two Year Classroom Program for IIT-JEE), primarily involves various topics covered in the X standard CBSE Maths syllabus. But, the difficulty level of the questions will be quite high. All the questions will be subjective in nature and the time allotted is two hours.

The following topics constitute the syllabus :

1. Linear Equations in Two Variables

2. Rational Expressions and Polynomials

3. Quadratic Equations, Inclusive of Equations reducible to Quadratic Equation form

4. Arithmetic Progression

5. Trigonometric Ratios and Identities, Inclusive of Heights and Distances

6.  Application oriented problems in Geometry [9 th and 10 th standard syllabus – Angle Tracing using Theorems etc]

7.  Co-ordinate Geometry

8.  Probability

9.  Miscellaneous – Venn Diagram based Problem solving, Usage of modulus value of a variable, Simplifications using algebraic identities etc.

Special Note:

1. “Equations reducible to Quadratic Equation form” involves various techniques to solve certain category of equations, by suitably converting them to the form of a Quadratic Equation. Knowledge on this topic will be tested. If this is not present in the current X standard syllabus, students can refer the books related to X standard Maths published few years back adhering to the previous syllabus. Perusal of XI standard Maths syllabus for Quadratic Equations might also help.

.2. In Probability, fundamental counting principles, which are beyond the current X standard syllabus, will also be tested. Students can refer the basics of counting principles outlined in XI standard syllabus under the topic “Permutations and Combinations”, though the chapter in its entirety is not of relevance to the entrance.
